The Germans used the turrets of obsolete tanks as fixed positions, known as Panzerstellung, in order to guard vital areas, such as railroad lines, road junctions, bridges, beaches and other areas.

Here we have another example of a Panzerstellung in Greece, this time very close to Davleia railway station.

The photos were shot in the early 2000, sadly the tank turret has now disappeared, possibly sold as scrap metal, or sold to collectors by thieves.

Hidden in the undergrowth and right beside the railroad tracks, this Panzer turret remained in its position for 60 years, before it was stolen.

Mr. Vasileios Kapantais, a keen researcher of WW2 history, discovered this Panzerstellung after a suggestion from his good friend and expert on the subject, Mr. Konstantinos Gogis.
