A group of Greek Evzones, the elite mountain troops of the Greek Army, is seen in this 24 cm. x 18 cm. photo, along with some officers and other soldiers, during the Greco-Italian War 1940-41.
Note the rifle one of the Evzones is holding.
The caption in the back reads: “In a village somewhere in the line of fire”. The photo is stamped by the Army General HQs and approved by the military censors of the time. Unfortunately, we cannot yet decipher what the caption in the bottom mentions.
