In June 2021, after research with my friend Mr. Panagiotis Savvidis, we located the central gallery of the main fortress of Popotlivitsa with its branches, proving that the work of opening the underground galleries of the fortress was at an advanced stage and had almost been completed, before the German invasion in April 1941.

We also found that in all the surface works of the fort, which were reconstructed in the 1950s, the galleries and the corresponding chambers for the soldiers had been opened.

13

We also found out that the galleries leading to the underground bunkers were completed with cement.

The above discovery overturns the prevailing opinion, which is mentioned in the official records of the Greek Army General Staff and reproduced by many researchers, that no work had been carried out in the underground part of the main fortress.

Inside the galleries we also found various finds such as Hotskiss machine gun magazines as well as part of a gun base.
