Every ship has a soul, but what becomes of it when it sinks?
Does the soul follow the wreck at the abyss, or does it fly free, roaming the seas?
I was very moved to see a series of photos by a good friend, a critically acclaimed photographer, who wishes to remain anonymous, of a salvaged wreck in Perama, Greece.
I asked my friend, whether he would be OK to share his wonderful images with www.ww2wrecks.com despite the fact that this ship has nothing to do with WW2.
The 103-meter long passenger ship was built in 1961 in Spain and was named “Cuidad de Tarifa”, which it maintained until 1984-1985, when it was acquired by the company of the Agapitos brothers and renamed “Corfu Island”, raising the Greek flag.
In 1985 the ship sailed on the Adriatic line and on May 20, 1986 it sank into the Perama base, at a depth of 22 meters, in front of Pier II, over the already sunken barge “Evangelia”.
The wreck was salvaged in the summer of 2018 and will be sold as scrap.
